Project Management Quiz

Project work Process

The project manager and team regularly review the processes used for project work.

Process tailoring is used to adjust and improve processes to suit project needs.

Tailoring considers the project’s environment and specific demands.

Lean production methods use tools like value stream mapping to compare value-adding vs. non-value-adding activities and increase efficiency.

Tailoring to the Environment

  • Retrospectives or Lessons Learned – These are meetings where the team reviews what went well or not, and suggests improvements to make the process more efficient.
  • Where is the next best funding spent? – Teams should ask this to decide if they should continue the current task or move to another task that gives better value.
  • Effective Processes – Processes must meet quality, regulations, standards, and company policies, and still deliver the expected results

Value Steam Mapping Process

  1. Implement your new map – Start by asking questions to spot problems in your current workflow.
  2. Choose your team – Build a cross-functional team to work on the mapping process.
  3. Define the project scope – Decide how much of the process or life cycle you will focus on.
  4. Map your value stream – Use symbols to show how information and material flow.
  5. Add project data – Include data like times, delays, and metrics for better insights.
  6. Create a timeline – Make a time ladder showing total lead time and cycle time.
  7. Analyze your current map – Identify waste and use methods like kaizen to solve problems.
  8. Design your new map – Redraw the process and mark areas where improvements are needed.
  9. Implement your new map – Use your improved map to make the workflow better.
