Tuckman’s Model – Team Development Stages
  1. Forming
    • Objective: Get to know one another and discuss project details.
    • Feelings: Excitement, respect, optimism, shyness.
  2. Storming
    • Objective: Align on project goals and work through conflicts.
    • Feelings: Frustration, confusion, anger, defensiveness.
  3. Norming
    • Objective: Resolve problems and operate cohesively.
    • Feelings: Trust, confidence, comfort, energetic.
  4. Performing
    • Objective: Look for ways to improve the project and measure progress.
    • Feelings: Motivation, creativity, excitement, satisfaction.
  5. Adjourning (sometimes called “Mourning”)
    • Objective: Celebrate milestones and document results.
    • Feelings: Relief, fulfillment, sadness, grief.

Team Performance Starts low in Forming, dips during Storming (conflicts), rises in Norming, peaks in Performing, and closes with Adjourning.
